This is a blog that reflects some of my thoughts on christianity, the worship ministry at Bridgepoint, and what is going on with my family and my life.

Atheist or Agnostic

Do you know what the difference is between and atheist and an agnostic? An atheist is someone who believes that there is no God. Usually they are fairly adamant that there is not a God. Many times atheist are people who can not stand Christians, and they are usually the intellectual type. Because of the circles that I run in, I don't know many of them.

An agnostic is different. First of all, there are several different categories of them. An agnostic in general is not sure if there is a God or not. Some believe that there might be a God but have never really seen any evidence, so they can not be sure.

I think many of the un-churched people in our lives would fall into this category. They don't deny God, but they can't be sure that there is a God either. They are undecided. How do we reach these people for Christ? How do we reach atheist for Christ?

Ultimately it is the working of the Holy Spirit in their lives, but God can work through us as believers to show them Jesus. What it really comes down to is Christians showing the love of Christ through our relationships with these people. It might even be simple acts of kindness.

These are just some thoughts. Any comments?

I know several in both categories. What intrigues me though is that those who profess to be "atheist" HAVE to believe in God in order to deny His existence. It's impossible to truly "deny" something UNLESS you believe it exists so that you CAN deny it. Anywho....just something I've always been intrigued with. Atleast that's the case with all the atheists I've known.

i don't know a whole lot of atheist, but i do know a couple, as of right now. they are very resistant, so they have to be approached through consistancy. i have to be what i say i am. i have to show true love in order for them to ever give me the time of day. but i agree, most are agnostic. it's not that they don't want to believe, they just don't think god has reveled himself to them. unfortunately it's not true. he's all over their lives. they just can't see it. we can help them see it being jesus to them.
i'm not sure i agree with your coment scott and here's my reasoning. i don't believe in ghosts or aliens and i don't believe i actually, deep down, DO believe in them in order to not believe in them. i think someone can deny there is a god all they want and really believe that is their truth. unfortunately for them, the word says that even creation cries out worship when we don't and that no one is without blame. god is everywhere we look. so really, what they are doing is denying the truth of god they see and finding an alternative for it to be because i'm sure there is a part of them that's afraid there is something out there to be accountable to.
so anyway. just a couple thoughts
