This is a blog that reflects some of my thoughts on christianity, the worship ministry at Bridgepoint, and what is going on with my family and my life.

You have got to watch this...

I thought this was amazing. I watched it, and as I watched it I tried to hold the tears back. Then I had my wife watch it with me, and we both could not keep the tears in.

Alisha our administrative assistant sent it to me and thought it would be cool to do at our church. That would be sweet.

Check it out. If it doesn't get you somehow, you might want to check yourself out, and make sure you are alive.

Weekend Reflections- June 28,29

It was good to be back at Broadway this weekend. I had the opportunity to be at Saddleback Church last weekend, but it was really great to be back home. We had a great time of worship. I had the opportunity to lead from the guitar and it was really fun. I enjoy doing that.

The congregation did a great job being engaged with the services. The band, media, sound, and vocals all did a great job as well.

I am also thankful for the team from last weekend. It is great to be able to leave and not worry about things while I am gone.

Here are the songs we did...

-Hosanna(Paul Baloche)
-Love the Lord (Lincoln Brewster)
-How Great is our God/ How Great Thou Art Medley (Chris Tomlin, Carl Boberg)
-Indescribable (Chris Tomlin)

Busy Good

This is the last day at the conference. It has been so good. I have learned a lot, but I have really been challenged and encouraged being here. There are many things that I have learned. My brain is about ready to explode.

It has also been nice being here, because I have realized that we are doing many things right, and we have a really good team. I know that I have learned some new things to implement, but I have also realized that I am very thankful for the ministry that we have at Broadway.

I have learned many principles musically, but the biggest thing that I am taking away from this conference is that I need to continue loving people. I need to be the biggest servant of all in our ministry. I want our worship ministry to be a family, and I need to continue to strive to lead in that direction.

They have had amazing music and worship. Last night we went to a concert with Big Daddy Weave and Kirk Franklin. I have never been to a concert like that before. It was off the hook. It was nuts. Kirk Franklin is crazy. He had that place thumpin' for Jesus. My favorite music of all though was Paul Baloche. We do many of his songs at our church, so to hear it live and to hear the crowd sing was amazing. The thing that I loved the most about him was his heart. He is so humble. It really spoke to me as well stretched me.

I am very blessed to be able to come to this conference. I hope that God will continue to grow and stretch me as I minister for Him.

Saddleback Church

We had a great time attending Sadddleback Church in Lake Forest California today. If you are not familiar with Saddleback Church, you can check the out at http://www.saddleback.com/ .

At Saddleback they have multiples service along with multiple venues. They have their main services(6) along with a traditional, gospel, hard rock, Hawaiian, Latino, Family, Singles, and a couple other ones as well.

I was able to attend the main service along with the traditional, gospel and hard rock services. They were all good, and very different. They all had the same message. The main service was live and the other ones were fed by video live.
It is great sometimes to learn from other churches and how they do their ministry.

We are really excited about started the conference tomorrow night, and praying that God will teach us some new things.

worship conference

I'm excited about this weekend. I will be heading to California for the Saddleback worship conference.

It will be a great time to refresh and be renewed. I'm praying that God will open my eyes and mind to some new things, and refresh His vision for my life and ministry.

Here are some of the people that will be there. Kirk Franklin, Leeland, Delirious?, Paul Baloche, Big Daddy Weave, Christy Nockels, plus instrumental legends, Abe Laboreal, Paul Jackson Jr. (the guitar player you see every week on American Idol), Tom Brooks (Saddleback member and founding producer of Integrity Music), Doyle Dykes and much more.

It should be a great time. I will let you know some of the things I see, hear and learn.

Mission Aviation Fellowship

I had the opportunity along with a few other guys from our worship team to lead worship a couple times yesterday at Mission Aviation Fellowship. They were having their annual retreat for all of the employees at MAF.

MAF is a faith-based, non-profit ministry. Teams of aviation, communications and technology specialists overcome barriers, transform lives, and enable the work of more than 800 organizations around the world.

It is a pretty neat place, and they are doing some awesome things around the world. Here is their website. http://www.maf.org/home

The head pilot instructor Paul Bergen took Phill Wheeler and I on a plane ride to the Owhyee mountains. It was a 6 passenger prop plane. It was fun.

I am thankful to worship with other believers who I didn't even know. It was a great time.

New Book Help

I am looking for some new books to read. I am finally finishing up the book "Unchristian". I would recommend you reading that one. My friend Nicole gave me the new Donald Miller book "Searching for God Knows What". I will be interested in seeing what that is about.

Do you have any other suggestions for good books? I would like to read a few this month.
And don't say the Bible. I already read that one.
Help a brotha out.

Weekend reflections- June 7,8

We had a great weekend at church. Pastor Jeff's message was off the hook. That means that is was really good.

He talked about the Prodigal Son, and related to the father and the older brother. He asked us if we are more like the father who welcomes people with open arms, or are we more like the older brother who folded his arms to his brother coming home. Pastor Jeff challenged us to be like the father individually and as a church.

We had a great time worshipping the Lord.

Here are the songs we sang...

-My Savior Lives (New Life Worship)
-Jesus Paid it All (Hall, Elvina-Passion Version)
-Your Name (Paul Baloche)
-Blessed Be Your Name (Matt Redman)
-Still (Hillsong)- Special Music

5 Ways I Can Be A Better Worship Pastor

1. I must implement our Pastor's Vision for the church, not just my own.

I do need to be creative in what I do at our church, but I must always remember that God has placed our Pastor in the lead position. That doesn't mean that I will not take initiative or work really hard in implementing task and goals for the ministry that God has placed me in, but I always need to keep our Pastor in the loop and stay aligned with him.

I have seen many Senior Pastors and Worship Pastors go in 2 different directions. I think it is very important that both of them are lined up together and have the same goal and vision.

I am blessed because Pastor Jeff gives me a lot of freedom in our ministry, but I always want to line up with him and the direction that God is leading him for our church.

2. I need to be a Worship Pastor that cares more about Jesus and the vision of the church, than the next big thing musically that may come along.

I have seen so many Worship Leaders that spend more time on writing their own music and worrying about their side gigs than investing in the vision for the church and the people of the church.

At this point in my life God has not given me the ability to be a super talented song writer. Although I would wish for this, I think this is a blessing for me. I think if I were better at that, I would probably spend more time on that and less time with the church and the people.

3. I must be very careful in what I say from the stage during our services.

Sometimes this is a hard one for me. I battle with saying to much and sometimes not saying enough. I always want to be careful not to talk to much during the musical portion of our service, so that I do not take away from the music nor the message. I always want to make sure that I prepare what I say and don't ramble.

4. I must always care about the people of the church.

The thing that I love the most about being in the ministry is the people. I love investing in lives and having relationships with the people of our church. I love the actual ministry that I am in, but I don't think that I would be in ministry if it weren't for the people. That is what I love the most.

Unfortunately I get so busy sometimes that the thing I love the most about ministry gets left out. The people. There are times I have so much to do, that I don't take time to invest in others and allow them to invest in me.

I need to always place our people first.

5. I must always be on the offensive, not the defensive.

I must always push myself and never play it safe. If I ever get comfortable in what I am doing, because it is working, that is when I am in trouble. I must always show my Pastor and the church that I am never satisfied with the status qou. There is too much to do, too many people to reach, and too much creativity out there to stop trying to be better.

Weekend Reflections- May 31, June 1

This was the last time that the Praise Choir is going to be singing until September. We are going to have the summer months off, and then start off fresh in the fall. If you are intrested in singing in the Praise Choir, we would love to have you be a part of it in the fall.

We had a great weekend at church, and we had a fun time worshiping the Lord.

Here are the songs we did...

-All because of Jesus (Steve Fee)
-Our God Saves (Paul Baloche)
-I am Yours - Take my life and Let it Be (Michael Neale version)
-Everlasting God (Brenton Brown)
-He Reigns w/ Our God is an Awesome God (Special- Travis Cotrell/Kirk Franklin)

I have attached a you tube version of the song that we did this weekend with the choir.

I thought the band and choir did a awesome job. It was soo neat to see the church get involved in it as well. In the 8:30 service, most of the congregation stood up spontaneously and were singing and clapping. It was really cool.

Thank you praise choir for a great semester of choir. Someone video taped the song He reigns, so I'm going to try and get it and post it on the blog.

Thank you church for growing in your expression to the Lord.
