This is a blog that reflects some of my thoughts on christianity, the worship ministry at Bridgepoint, and what is going on with my family and my life.

are christians too sheltered?

I am writing this post to ask a question? I will follow it up with my thoughts later, but I want to hear from you?

As I said in the previous post, I am reading a book called "unchristian". One of the chapters deal with the fact that most "non-christian" people think that "christians" are too sheltered. I would say it would depend on which christian you are talking about. I know some christians that would never have a relationship with an unbeliever, and some that allow the "world" to influence them to much.

Where is the balance as a christian? How much should we be in the world? The Bible tells us to "not be of the world". What is the difference between being in the world, and not of it?

Before you answer think about these questions?

1. What non-christian person are you investing in to see them come to know Christ?
2. Do you have purposeful relationships with unbelievers to be salt and light to them?
3. Do you have any contact with people that are non-believers?

What are your thoughts?

this weekend- April 26, 27

We finished our last sermon in the series "Twisted". It has been really good. I have really enjoyed studying what the devil has Twisted in our world.

These are the songs that we did as a church.

-My Savior Lives (New Life Worship)
-He Reigns(Newsboys)
-Majesty (Delerious)
-Rescue (Travis Cottrell version)

We had a great time with the team. You guys did a great job! Thanks for a great weekend!

unchristian

I am in the middle of a book called "Unchristian". It has been really eye opening for me. The book gives stats of hundreds of surveys they have done with non-christians. It is sad how non- believers think of believers.
I have mixed feelings about this book. Many of the things that non-believers think about believers are false. But, regardless if they are right about it or not, that is the way they think of us. Many of those thoughts though, we have brought upon ourselves because we as Christians have not done the right things.
This book has made me realize even more, what I need to do to reach a lost world for Christ. I would recommend any Christian to read it. It might make you rethink how you interact with the non-believers and believers around you.

face to face

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord… so I said, ‘Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips.’”
-Isaiah 6:1, 5

Have you ever wondered what you will say when you see Jesus face to face? Do you think that you will stand before Him or fall on your face? Do think you will sing His praises or will you be silent in reverence and awe? None of us really know what will happen on that day, but we do know that there will be cause of celebration and rejoicing. When I think of how sinful I am and how great Jesus is I am often overwhelmed.

There have been times in my life as a Christian, when I just feel like shouting and openly expressing my love for God. There have been other times where I just stand in silence and meditate on him. While Celebrating Jesus is a big part of the Christian's life, many times I feel so inadequate with God, I just have to be in silence and thank him for saving someone like me.
How are you with God right now? If your were face to face with God right now, what would you do, and how would you feel? What would you say?

our trip

This is more of a personal blog entry, but as many of you know, my wife and I were blessed to take a trip to Hawaii. We will be married 10 years this summer. So we decided to celebrate our 10 years with a trip. We left to Hawaii with our friends Keith and Chrisanna Harrington who were also celebrating their 10 year anniversary. They were married 1 week later than Heather and I. We had a great time with them.

We do understand that we were truly blessed to go on this trip. I never actually thought that the Lord would bless us with a trip to Hawaii. I also have to really thank my n-laws for watching our children.

We had a great time. I wish I had time to blog about all that we did, but I at least wanted to give you a few pictures. The most important thing though was the time that I spent with my wife. She is truly a gift from God. I had the best time, just getting to hang out with her. It helped me remember why I married her in the first place. It was awesome. Here are some pictures.

breakfast with my kids

Heather and I are going on vacation tomorrow to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. So our children will be going to the grandparents for the week.

Because I will not see my kids for awhile, I wanted to do something with just them and I. So I took them to breakfast. It wasn't really a big deal. But I wanted to create a memory with them. So I tried to build excitement with them. The night before I really built it up and talked it up. I told them they had to get up early so we could go to this new cool restaurant, "The Griddle". I told them they could have pancakes and bacon, which they love.

They were excited. We had a great time, even though it wasn't really that exciting. We made it exciting and fun. I even brought the camera and took pictures, which means that this is important. The main thing was we were just spending time together.

How many times do we do that with God. He wants to just be with us, and spend time with us doing everyday simple things. But instead of enjoying Him, we just get bored in the things we are doing, taking them for granted.

We need to be pre-intive with our time with God. Let's build it up in our own minds, and talk it up. Not for God's benefit, but for our own. I wonder how much of a difference that would make in our lives.

Oh and by the way, "The Griddle" isn't bad.
