This is a blog that reflects some of my thoughts on christianity, the worship ministry at Bridgepoint, and what is going on with my family and my life.

christmas break

We were fortunate to take a few days off+ during Christmas week. Our family of 5 went to Baker City,Oregon where my wife's family reside. We had a great time of eating, playing games, watching tv, sledding, skiing, and just being lazy. It is nice to take a break every so often. I feel really lazy during times like these, but I think my body and mind need the rest.

It was my Birthday on Thursday, so we got to do what I wanted to do. We were able to go skiing at Anthony lakes. http://www.anthonylakes.com/ I went with Trevar and my father-n-law Andy. Most of the day was spent working with Trevar on how to walk in skis. He started getting it at the end of the day, and we had a great time.

This weekend at church Rob Steen led with the Green team. They did a great job. It is nice to be able to sit in the congregation and just listen and worship. I am thankful that we have so many talented musicians at our church.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas as well.

christmas program music

One of the our awesome piano players Bill Manning recorded our Christmas program and put a few of the songs on his my space page. Here is the link if you would like to hear them. I think the first 4 songs are from the program. http://myspace.com/billmanningmusic

(They are on the right side of his page on the media player.)

Thanks Bill.

my week

It has been a great week. I had a chance to catch up on some things that I needed to do at work. I was able to take my dog to the vet, get her groomed, and in the same day, shop for Christmas and my wife's birthday.

We had a great practice Wednesday night with the worship team. Those guys are great.

On Thursday we went and saw Kandis and Jeremy's little baby boy Chaucer. He is a cutie. While we were there Cassi told me "Dad you have to go and wash your hands if you want to pet him". I thought that was funny.

On Friday it was Heather's Birthday. So we went to Costco to return my ipod because it stopped working. Then we went and saw the movie Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium. The Kids seemed to really like it. After that we told Heather she could go anywhere she wanted and she picked a Mexican place called Durangos. It was a pretty neat little place. We then went to Mavericks to get her Frozen Yogurt. She loves that stuff. It was a great night celebrating her Birthday. She is a great wife.

All in all it was a good week. I am looking forward to this weekend and next week as we celebrate the birth of Christ.

Merry Christmas!!

PS- the only picture I had of this week, was my dog's new dew.

All I can say is awesome. The Christmas Program is done and it turned out great! Everyone did a great job. I can't believe how it all comes together sometimes. Last Wednesday nights practice was pretty questionable. But then this past weekend it all pulled together.

The Band, Choir, Vocals, Sound, Media, Narration and Kids did wonderful. I know a lot of time and effort went into the program by a lot of people. I'm so thankful for their hard work. I think we had well over 1000 people attend the programs this year. I think there might have been a couple of salvations as well. Praise God.

If you are reading this blog entry and you had a part in this program, thank you. We could not have done it without you.
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

i love you

I was reading in Romans 13 today. Paul is talking about how we should love our neighbors as ourselves. In verse 8 Paul also says that love is an obligation. As you think about that, you understand that love is an obligation because of the debt to Christ that we owe. (And no I'm not talking about earning salvation. That is only possible through the grace and mercy of God.) The only way we could think of paying that debt is to love others in return. And since Christ love will always be so much greater than ours, we will always have the obligation to love others.

My prayer is that I can genuinly love others. Even when things get crazy and life is busy, I still have to put others first daily. Even when others don't love me, or don't treat me the way that I want to be treated, I must love them in return.

Whenever love demands it, we are to go beyond human requirements and imitate the love of God.

proud father and husband

I went to my kid's/wife's school assembly this morning at Mary McPherson. Heather is a kindergarten teacher there, and all 3 of my children attend there as well. It is cool because the principal and like 4 other teachers there go to our church. Heather loves teaching there.

The school does an assembly once a month, where they give out awards to kids that display the virtue of the month.

Heather presented awards to her class. I was able to snap some pictures of that. She did a great job.

Christopher won an award for being courteous. He was so cute.

Trevar won an award last year for a virtue as well. I'm sure at some point Cassi will win an award as well. She will probably get the award for having the most energy.

I have a great family.

is santa bad?

As Christians we know what Christmas is really about. I think that is very clear and evident. At least I hope it is for believers.

I've wrestled with the thought of whether I should promote Santa, or even allow the "Connelly" family to have any part in Santa. I have also been told if you mix the letters in Santa up, you get Satan. Hee Hee.

I have met Christians that believe either way about Santa. (Not that they actually believe in Santa.) Some believe that Santa is just a fun thing to do at Christmas, and others are adamantly against even talking about him, because they think it takes the importance out of what God did for us by sending his son to earth.

I think if we are not careful we can allow anything (outside of Jesus Christ) to take the place of the importance of Christmas. We can allow family, programs, parties, presents, trees, food, and even church sometimes to overshadow the real reason for Christmas.

So my point is that we have to remember to place Jesus above everything on Christmas. If we keep Him as our focus, I think all of the other stuff can be good and even help promote the real reason for Christmas.

So back to Santa. Heather and I allow "talk" of Santa in our house. When we first adopted our children, and they were still young enough to believe in Santa, we had fun with it. But we never allowed that to take the place of Jesus. We always taught and will continue to teach our kids why we celebrate Christmas.

Our kids have always wanted to sit on Santa's lap at the mall, so we finally did it this year. They had a great time!!!
Oh and by the way, if you are reading this, and I spoiled the story of Santa for you, I'm sorry. But he is not real.
If you get a chance comment on the blog and let me know what you think.

this weekend- december 8,9

We had another great weekend. We finished the series on Fight Club. It seemed like our church was packed.

It was also a crazy weekend. For some reason I had planned a dress rehearsal for our Christmas program at 2:00 on Saturday. That practice ran from 2-4. Then we started a practice for the worship team at 4:00. This practice was for the services. Our team did a great job though. They are awesome, and I really appreciate their flexiblity.

It was nuts on Saturday, because we had like a billion kids there practicing. But the Children's workers did a great job, and the practice turned out great. I really appreciate everyone's hard work.

We did these songs for the weekend
-Not to Us
-Sweetly Broken
-Here I am To Worship
-O Come Let us adore Him
-Hallelujah (Hillsong)

christmas tree

We did it. Our kids have been asking for a couple weeks now, but we finally made time to put the Christmas tree up.

This year I decided to let the kids attempt to put it up by themselves. Probably not my smartest move. Our "fake" tree has color coded limbs. They had 3/4 of the tree done when I realized that they mixed up the colors, and therefore had the limbs mixed up. But it is all good. We just started over and got it done right. We had a good time.

I can remember as a kid how much fun Christmas time was. I remember putting up the tree, and begging my parents to let us put lights outside, which they did. Those are really good memories.

This year I decided to put lights up on our house. Again, what was I thinking. We got them put up and now we are decorated up. I hope my kids can have great memories of the Christmas season, just like I did when I was kid.
